INFORMATION Communication and Technology Minister Timothy Masiu says parties set to be affected by the telecommunications levy introduced by the Government must find resolutions to their issues.
Masiu said yesterday that the Government had made its decision and, “it is really up to the parties concerned to come together and discuss that and find some solutions to it.”
“For me, I support connectivity and accessibility. Today’s age, it is very important. People are now more mobile friendly.” He said a third operator, Digitec-Vodafone, would enter the market on April 21.
“It is also time for Papua New Guineans to get together and come up with a company that also provides these types of services.
“We have people with the know-how and expertise and it is important.”
Treasurer Ian Ling-Stuckey said in Parliament last month that the Treasury Department was now increasing tax on parts of the economy that were super-profitable, in particular the banking and telecommunications sector.
