GENESIS coach Percy Mataio has hailed the Papua New Guinea Football Association (PNGFA) for reviving the Women’s National Soccer League (WNSL) which has enabled players to take part in regular competitive football.
Mataio extended his gratitude to president John Kapi Natto, his executives and all the other support staff behind the scenes who had worked hard to ensure a successful competition.
“Without PNGFA’s support and work, female footballers would not have a platform to come out and play the way they did so far,” he said.
“I can only say that I’m proud of the efforts of the players, not just in my team but across the two conferences.”
Mataio said his Southern Conference winners’ successes would not have been possible without the support of the club executives, players’ parents and their sponsors.
“I couldn’t be prouder of the support that we have,” he said.
“The moral and financial support has allowed us to perform the way we are performing.
“We want to acknowledge our sponsors, Budget Rent A Car and Boroko Motors, for giving us a feel of what corporate sponsorship is all about in terms of providing our playing and training kits as well as support vehicles to use on game days.
“This is overwhelming for us, considering that this our first time in the WNSL.”
Mataio said the support of Port Moresby Soccer Association (PMSA) president Joseph Ealedona had also given them confidence to represent the association in the upcoming finals.
“He has allowed us to use the training venue (Bisini Soccer Ground) to continue our preparations for the finals,” Mataio said.
“He’s been a strong supporter of all the PMSA teams and we are no exception, we continue to be part of the association.”
