BUILDING materials for the Bougainville Polytechnic College to be established in Hahela on Buka Island arrived last Friday.
Local contractor Islands Konsultant Limited (IKL) said the project had been delayed due to the suppliers of the materials in Australia and also the availability of funds by the national government through the District Services Improvement Programme (DSIP) from the office of the Regional Member for Bougainville.
IKL managing director Francis Gimots said the project had taken too long and for the materials to finally arrive was a great relief to enable them to start work again on the project.
He said the container of building materials contained the frame structure of the building.
He said they would be assembling the frames then install and erect the whole building.
“At the moment the flooring and foundation of the building are complete, the thrust have been assembled and now we are working on the frames,” Gimots said.
He added that other materials that were still to come on the next shipment included plumbing and electrical materials for the building.
Gimots said IKL was committed to successfully completing and delivering the project on time.
He thanked the regional member for Bougainville and Minister for Bougainville Affairs, Joseph Lera for having the project as one of his priorities to be completed before the end of the year.
Gimots also appealed to people to respect the facilities at the project site in Hahela as it was government property that catered for their long-term interests.
