PAPUA New Guinea’s respected and senior banker Garth McIlwain has resigned as director of the board of agri-business New Guinea Islands Produce Co Ltd (NGIP) along with Jack Diuvia.
NGIP chairman Don Manoa announced the resignation at the annual general meeting last Friday and paid tribute to Diuvia, McIlain and Noreo Beangke who failed to be reelected to the board of directors of NGIP.
Manoa, in his tribute, said: “I am saddened to see these men leave the board … they were the longest-serving directors on our board and their experience will be greatly missed.
“Diuvia had served on the board since 1981 and had been involved with many changes in the company over that time.”
Beangke and McIlwain had served the board since the early 1990s and had bought a significant degree of independence to the board that will be hard to replace.”
Manoa said a casual vacancy had been created by McIlwain’s resignation and the board would consider a replacement in due course.
Manoa also announced that the company realised  a net profit before tax of K7,297,823.
