PAPUA New Guinea international David Mead is hoping to return from injury for the Catalans Dragons’ round-eight English Super League clash with the Castleford Tigers at Headingly on Sunday.
The 31-year-old, who injured his medial ligament at training a fortnight ago, missed his side’s 6-34 loss to St Helens in the Super League restart over the weekend.
Mead told The National yesterday from Perpignan, France, that he was racing the clock to take the field on Sunday.
“I hurt my medial ligament at training two weeks ago,” the Tubusereia native said.
“I was excited to play the first game back but obviously I couldn’t.
“I am looking forward to playing soon.
“I might be back this weekend, depending on how my knee feels over the next few days.
“If not this week then I’ll definitely be back next week.
“It feels like it has been a long time since I last played so I am excited to put my boots on again.”
Meanwhile, the former National Rugby League player, who had stints with the Brisbane Broncos and Gold Coast Titans, said the six-again rule had affected their game over the weekend.
“I think St Helens played really well,” Mead said.
“They ran hard in attack and scrambled well in defence.
“I thought it was a great game in the opening 20 minutes.
“But a few six-again calls against us took a lot of energy out of the boys.
“That was when the Saints started to take advantage of the opportunities.”
