Kumuls flyer eager to form potent combination with Folau, Maloney

KUMULS centre David Mead says he is keen to play alongside new Catalans Dragons recruits James Maloney and Israel Folau in the English Super League when it restarts.
Mead told The National that he was disappointed to be sidelined by a torn abductor tendon, which he had suffered in the Dragons’ 12-32 loss to Huddersfield in the opening round.
The season was suspended indefinitely in round six as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
The 31-year-old is yet to play in a match with former Penrith Panther Maloney and sacked Wallaby Folau. Rugby Australia sacked former New South Wales Waratahs fullback Folau over controversial comments about same-sex marriage.
Mead, who was anticipating a return from injury in round 11, said the suspension of the season due to Covid-19 was another setback.
“I was looking forward to getting back on the field to play with Israel (Folau) and James (Maloney) because they are quality players,” he said.
“But it wasn’t to be (at least for now) because of what is happening with the current situation. I hope we can play together at some point this year.
“I would love to play alongside them but for the safety of everyone it is understandable why the competition has been deferred.”
Since Folau’s arrival, the Dragons have turned their season around with three straight wins prior to the suspension.
Meanwhile, former Brisbane Bronco and Gold Coast Titan flyer Mead said he was aiming to play in his fourth Rugby League World Cup in England next year.
