HEALTH officers in Port Moresby yesterday removed more than 20kg of frozen meat products due to non-compliance with standard practice.
The seized goods include sausages, lamb neck pieces, chicken thighs and lamb.
A packet of frozen potato chips was confiscated.
During the investigation, an environment health officer attached with the National Capital District health division, Mathew Laba, said a wholesale and retail shop in Gordon displayed unprotected frozen meat products in a freezer, posing serious public health concerns to customers.
He said it was very likely for customers to touch the meat products.
Laba recommended to the shop management to pack them properly in packages with price tags or create a new frozen meat unit like other shops do. He warned that should the shop’s management commit the offence again under the food regulation and sanitation law, they would face a hefty penalty or their trading licence would be forfeited.
Meanwhile he said the condemned meat products were given to the RSPCA to feed their dogs.
