THE PNG Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative yesterday briefed the media on types of revenue streams to the government from the extractive sector.
It was a lead-up to the release soon of the PNG EITI 2015 and 2016 reports.
PNG EITI communications specialist Christopher Tabel said the workshop was to brief the media about what the reports contained.
The reports are to be released before Dec 31.
“The idea is to have the media informed about the different revenue streams, their impact in a particular fiscal year and other aspects of the reports,” Tabel said.
“The purpose of the EITI and why it was established is mainly about transparency and accountability in the country’s mining and petroleum sectors.
“Communication is a key objective of this where we report.
“This is not only awareness but also to educate our people to understand where the money is coming from and how much and under which arrangements.”
Tabel said the execrative industry was growing with an increase in projects making it vital for proper reporting, especially on revenue to the government.
