A GROUP of Chinese medical workers have introduced a course on Mandarin for staff at the Port Moresby General Hospital (PMGH).
The second Chinese language course started on March 7 and was attended by medical professionals, medical students and other hospital staff.
Xie Yujie, the 13th China Medical Team coordinator and course trainer welcomed the participants during a small ceremony, expressing gratitude for their attendance.
PMGH medical services director Dr Kone Sobi also voiced support for the language course.
He said there were over a billion Chinese language users globally, and learning Mandarin opens up more opportunities.
Sobi was also hopeful that learning Chinese would promote greater cultural exchanges between the two countries.
Xie shared the rich history of Mandarin, highlighting that it was a global language.
“The six-month Chinese language training course aims to promote Chinese culture and enhance the listening and speaking abilities of medical staff,” she said.
She also expressed hope that the participants would experience the unique charm of Chinese culture during the learning process.
“China has been sending medical teams to PNG for more than 20 years.
“The China Medical Team members are dedicated to raising the level of medical technology in PNG and increasing people’s understanding of China and its culture, contributing to the enhancement of friendship between the two countries and the advancement of building a global community of health for all,” Xie said.
