DIGICEL PNG Ltd contribution towards reducing violence has been the initiative of the Men of Honour (MOH) campaign, which advocates on addressing violence in PNG by recognising ordinary men for doing extra-ordinary things.
Each year six awards are given during the MOH awards dinner night.
Three vibrant leaders have joined the dynamic six-member independent panel of judges to select finalists for season five of the MOH awards.
The three new judges are: Dr Fiona Hukula, senior research fellow and building safer communities programme leader at PNG’s National Research Institute.
Hukula will judge the education champion category.
Sisa Kini, ExxonMobil’s community development support and national content manager, will be looking after the community ingenuity category award and Eddie Aila, founder of the Warrior Culture, building male champions and former PNG rugby league representative, will take charge of the community sports mentor award.
These new judges will be joining head judge Dr Eric Kwa for the community leadership award category, Desmond Yaninen, CEO of the National Development Bank, who will judge the community entrepreneur category and Arianne Kassman, executive director of Transparency International PNG, who will judge the young men of honour category.
Digicel Foundation chief executive Serena Sasingian said this season’s panel of judges represented high calibre of leaders who were phenomenal in their specialised areas.
Sharing his experience, Kwa, expressed how the MOH journey had given him the opportunity to view life in PNG through the eyes of rural and remote community.
He said this had added value to the work he did for the government.
Over 277 nominations were lodged in this season’s nomination cycle, with nominations received from all 22 provinces.
Judges are in the process of screening nominations to shortlist three finalists for each of the seven respective categories.
Following the selection process, judges will then travel to the finalists communities to carry out interviews.
