A youth group from the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Menyamya, Morobe, have walked from their village to Kerema before boarding a PMV to Port Moresby to raise funds to purchase musical instruments for their church.

The group, 20 students from Menyamya Primary and Minyamya High School, walked from their village to Kaintiba, Gulf, and boarded a PMV at Malalaua station for Port Moresby.

Group liaison officer Mund Yalamu said the five females and 15 males started walking on June 21 and arrived in Port Moresby on June 27.

“It was a tough trip across one of the longest routes up mountains and across big rivers. The journey took us six days,” Yalamu said.

The group hopes to raise K30,000 in Port Moresby by holding small outreaches at Boroko market and Gordon market today.

People can deposit donations at Lae Bank South Pacific account number: 1005915465 under Nelson Fuya or they can call him on 7052 5223 or the youth coordinator on 7372 4458

The group will return via the same route on Tuesday.
