THE Liklik Informal Business Meri Association (LIBA) will open branches in other centres in Papua New Guinea, founder and director Mary Pohei says.

Pohei said a plan to set up in East Sepik, Morobe and Northern is underway.

She said this when LIBA launched last Friday its partnership with the National Development Bank (NDB) under its Women in Business Programme and the People Micro Bank.

“Our partnership with these two organisations will promote the culture of saving and also facilitate our doing business with them,” Pohei said.

She said that since the National Government has funded NDB under its programme Women in Business, LIBA therefore would try to help their members obtain business loans.

“We, the women, must make use of this money to start our  small businesses,” Pohei said.

LIBA, which was created last March, is based in the National Capital District with 200 members.

Pohei said they would like to make NCD as the model centre and would set up more branches in other centres such as Maprik and Central Sepik.

“I want to encourage the women to involve themselves in poultry projects so that the money they make could be deposited with the NDB as savings after which they could apply for more loans,” Pohei said

She said the women could later venture into something big.

“LIBA is here to give them technical advice, support and other assistance on how to obtain a loan,” Pohei said.

LIBA is also offering its members training on finance management.
