CHIEF Migration officer Stanis Hulahau is meeting foreign business associations in the country to hear issues facing them. Hulahau has already met the Bangladeshi business association and would be meeting the Chinese business association.
“I want to gather from them the challenges they are going through, particularly in immigration,” he said. “(I want to know) how they would like us to support them in terms of facilitating their visa needs to allow them to do business in our country. “Also in terms of compliance cases.” Hulahau said there were some foreign nationals who had breached their visa conditions but not detected. “I am now passing the responsibility back to those business associations to talk to their members and bring them to us so that we can find a way to assist them on a case by case basis,” he said. “Only for those very serious cases particularly on character grounds.” Hulahau said the intention was to reach out to business associations before meeting the PNG Business Council and companies. “We are looking at reaching out to our big corporate clients like ExxonMobil and Paradise Foods Ltd,” he said. “Those are big companies and we are here to support them.”
