RISING rugby league star Jordan Milli is the first player from the Goroka Member’s Cup challenge to be selected on a two-year contract with the Bombala Blue Heelers club in Australia.
The club plays in the Group 16 competition in New South Wales.
Milli’s managers from the Options Group in NSW presented his airline ticket at the National Sports after a training session last week.
Options Group PNG’s Elvyn Ben presented Milli his ticket.
Ben said Milli was identified by the Blue Heelers during an Australia tour by the Goroka Member’s Cup team in March last year.
He said the Blue Heelers is a feeder club to the Canberra Raiders.
“We are creating another opportunity for young boys who can’t make it into the PNG Hunters and Digicel Cup,” Ben said.
Milli, 20, is the younger sibling of Enga Mioks’ Nathan Milli. His father, Milli Kaupa, was a former Goroka rugby league player.
The Goroka Secondary School Grade 11 student was a member of the PNG Under-23 Kumuls side that played in Brisbane last month.
Milli thanked former Goroka MP Bire Kimisopa for making it possible for the Cup team to tour Australia.
“I also thank my coach Glen Mondave, chairman Samson Kimisopa, manager Elvyn Ben and the Bombala Blue Heelers for recruiting me,” he said.
