AFTER 37 years, the people of inland Dawawa in the remote Weraura LLG, Milne Bay, will finally have a road connecting them to the main highway.
Their cries for a road have been finally heard after Alotau MP Charles Abel visited them in 2010.
Abel said the K92,000 road would be from Kapurika to Dawawa and funding would be drawn from the district services improvement programme 2010 budget.
He said a team of surveyors had continued surveying from where it was left in June 2010.
Abel said transport infrastructure was a key area of development needed in the inland Dawawa and other remote areas.
He said the road would lead to Alotau, where people carry out small scale mining and grew cash crops.
He said his aim was to see more government services reach the rural population.
Inland Dawawa ward councillors are providing crucial local knowledge of the tropical rainforest to the survey team.
