A WOMEN from Milne Bay was killed in a road accident in Goroka, Eastern Highlands, over the weekend.
Tiana Williams, 24, from the Trobriand Islands, was in a hired vehicle that ran off the road. She was killed instantly.
The accident occurred on the Goroka airport back road between the Pacific Helicopter and Goroka Steak House at 1.30pm.
The vehicle was reportedly travelling at speed when it veered off the road and struck a television tower on the side the road.
Eastern Highlands provincial police commander Augustine Wampe confirmed the accident and warned drivers to avoid drink-driving.
He said many innocent lives were lost through careless drink-driving.
Wampe said the driver suffered serious bodily injuries but was likely to be charged with drink-driving after he is discharged from hospital.
Wampe appealed to people to take extra care on the road because many people were on the move during the peak coffee season.
He said the victim was adopted by a Western Highlands couple and grew up in the highlands.
