THE students of Emmanuel Christian Academy School in the Usino-Bundi electorate in Madang have been urged to make the most of their educational opportunity to have a meaningful and constructive future.

Speaking at the school’s eighth graduation ceremony recently, Timothy Irinaya who is RAMU NiCo’s Kurumukari (KBK) mine deputy general manager, told students: “Unlike Highlands provinces, Bundi and Usino are close to the sea ports and other major infrastructure.

“Locals should make use of the education opportunities available to them to ensure a better future.”

The school is located at Enikuai relocation site of KBK mine.

“But it is not too late for us. The mine workers who earn money from KBK must send their children to school to be educated so they could have a brighter future,” Irinaya said.

Irinaya told the parents and students how his mother worked very hard frying lamp flaps and selling them to earn money for his school fees. “My mother worked very hard to pay for my school fees by frying lamp flaps.

When I returned from studies in Australia, people started gossiping about the reasons my mother was still frying lamp flaps to earn money.”  “When I heard this, I called my mother over and asked her to stop and I put her on my payroll and now she is paid from my earnings.

Irinaya said: “Education is very important and will secure yourfuture.”
