Mine releases more controls

ST Barbara, operator of Simberi gold mine in New Ireland, says its priority is to protect the health and well-being of its employees across its various operations and the people in the communities where they operate.
The company, in a statement, said that as a result of the surge in Covid-19 cases in the country, and a small number of Covid-19 cases being identified and contained within the operation’s on-site quarantine programme, the company activated additional controls at its Simberi operations as outlined in the St Barbara Covid-19 management plan.
“These additional controls were introduced earlier this week as a safeguard for our people and community, with operations continuing,” the company said.
“This includes limiting the movement of personnel to and from site, as well as the community.
“These measures and controls are designed to support safe operations, in line with our commitment to safety always.
“Our Covid-19 protocols have been successful in the early identification of cases, with on-site isolation, quarantine procedures, contact tracing and regular testing – for employees and the community – all proving to be effective.”
