Miner helps flood-affected villages in Usino-Bundi

FLOODING of the Ramu River in Madang has affected a community in Usino-Bundi district with more than 530 people forced to move to higher ground last week.
The flood waters impacted areas over a five-kilometre stretch of river extending into the floodplains.
Some areas were inundated while others were completely submerged with water level rising several metres in some places.
As a result of the flooding gardens, homes and livelihoods have been affected.
The company donated bags of rice, drinking water, tinned fish and cartons of biscuits to communities and people along Banu Breach in Usino-Bundi on Friday.
Plastics and tents were also distributed to those who needed shelter.
The flooding started Thursday with water levels rising dramatically overnight following continuous rainfall.

Ramu NiCo medical officers from its Kurumbukari mine clinic were also deployed to the area to render assistance to the sick and injured.
The communities affected were ward 31 of Usino LLG living near the Ramu River along the highway towards the Ramu NiCo Management (MCC) Limited office, Kurumbukari (KBK) Mine and communities along Banu Breach.
Ramu NiCo helped affected villages including Banu/Maure clan, Ass Manabu/Banu/Wawe Maure and Mokomboi clan and Yamagi Kuadei/Inland Pipeline clan.
The flooding also killed many livestock and destroyed food gardens, homes and properties in.
More food and drinking water were distributed to the communities on Saturday.
