GOROKA United received 20 pairs of boots from K92 Mining’s Philip Samar with the club dedicating to him Sunday’s 5-0 win over Brothers in Eastern Highlands’ premier rugby league competition.
Club secretary Maxie Roida, treasurer Ruth Loras and coach Nicko Slain received Samar’s donation at Brian Bell on Saturday before distributing the boots to their players at Sepika village.
United president Mathew Mieh thanked the K92 Mining vice-president, external affairs and sustainable development, for the donation, adding that players needed good boots to perform well on the field.
“My players have difficulty in affording new boots,” he said.
“They usually borrow boots from players in other clubs, so I thank Philip for the donation.
“It is costly to buy 20 pairs of boots so we sincerely thank him for going out of his way to make this donation a reality.”
Roida said the donation came as a big relief to the club.
