Mining, oil meet in Sydney from Dec 6-8

PREPARATIONS for the 11th mining and petroleum investment conference scheduled for next month in Australia is expected to be the largest gathering by host PNG Chamber of Mines and Petroleum.
More than 900 delegates are expected to be  in Sydney from Dec 6-8 to hear about the exciting developments taking place in this sector in PNG.
Executive director Greg Anderson said yesterday Prime Minister Sir Michael Somare had confirmed he will deliver the opening speech.’
“We are working in partnership with the government in marketing ourselves as a country in this industry, so a lot of ministers will be there,” he said.
The event is about showcasing the PNG mining and petroleum industry to the international finance and investment sectors, with up-to-date information about the industry, including a comprehensive analysis of the major projects and events currently dominating the industry.
 “The finance industry provides access to the capital required for resource project development and for the larger projects this can run into billions of dollars,” Anderson said.
A trade exhibition will be held simultaneously with 31 participating companies and organisations from the mining and petroleum companies, a wide range of service and supply companies and government organisations.
Anderson said the four major sponsors – Oil Search Ltd, Barrick Gold, ExxonMobil and Anitua – had  chipped in A$30,000 (K78,843.63) each to support the conference.
