Mining and petroleum conference puts Apec update on agenda

AN update on preparations for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) summit next year will be one of the highlights of the PNG Mining and Petroleum Conference.
A statement from the PNG Chamber of Mines and Petroleum said an overview of the different occupational health and safety systems managed by the PNG mineral and petroleum industry would also be an highlight of the event.
The event, which alternates between Sydney, Australia, and Port Moresby will be held at The Stanley Hotel and Suites.
The three-day conference will include sessions on mining, oil and gas updates, proposed petroleum developments, exploration and government initiatives in the resource industry.
Prime Minister Peter O’Neill will open the conference.
ANZ’s chief economist Richard Yetsenga will speak on how PNG and its resources sector can optimise opportunities in the global market.
Deputy Prime Minister and Treasurer Charles Abel will also provide delegates an overview of the national budget and the outlook for the resource industry next year.
OHS initiatives undertaken by resource companies to drive safety and workforce occupational health will be key discussion topics.
Newcrest Lihir will present its signature safety programme, the Lihir NewSafe Programme.
ExxonMobil will present its initiatives which are contributing to PNG LNG project’s excellent safety records.
