PAPUA New Guinea has prepared well to participate in the World Expo 2020 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, says Forest Minister Walter Schnaubelt.
The expo officially opens tomorrow and runs for six months before closing on March 31.
He will be attending the Climate and Biodiversity Week scheduled from Oct 3-9.
He will also be participating in engagements on behalf of his ministry and the Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Trade Soroi Eoe.
“The tremendous work done especially over the last 12 months to have PNG take this particular opportunity to promote itself to a global audience of investors is a testament to the support and leadership provided by our government,” he said.
“The Government continues to build important relationships regionally and globally, and that friendship is demonstrated by the support shown to PNG by the United Arab Emirates in the shipment of commercial products to Dubai and the construction of the PNG pavilion.”
More than 190 countries and 25 million visitors are expected in Dubai over the next six months.
During the Climate and Biodiversity Week, he plans to reiterate Prime Minister James Marape’s statement: “Our rainforest is the oxygen factory of the world, therefore, it is a global asset.
“To conserve, we must all work together to find a balance that will preserve the rainforest while improving livelihood.”
He said the forests played a very important role in the economic, environment and social development of PNG and vital for mitigating the effects of climate change, variability and sea level rise.”
