Minister lauds Parkop for dealing with waste

A cabinet minister has commended National Capital District Governor Powes Parkop for putting in a great effort, time and money into dealing with waste management in the capital city.
Minister for Environment, Conservation and Climate Change John Pundari said Parkop, in his reign as the governor of NCD, funded waste management programmes to ensure a clean Port Moresby and that was highly commendable.
Pundari said the Conservation and Environment Protection Authority (Cepa) had committed K150,000 towards the campaign to clean Motuan coastlines in NCD and Central not only for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in November but to continue into the future.
He supported a call made by Parkop to declare World Environment Day on June 5 every year a public holiday to promote and protect the environment.
“It is really the prerogative of the Cabinet, the National Executive Council, to decide on that,” Pundari said. “We will try to work together with other MPs and make a submission to cabinet.
“If Cabinet considers the submission and approves it, then it can be a public holiday as suggested by the good governor.”
