Minister praises PNG’s first step into digital education

Papua New Guinea has the potential to set the benchmark through science, research and technology, Minister for Higher Education, Research Science and Technology Pila Niningi says.
He told The National that PNG has taken the first step to adapt to online programmes at schools, colleges and universities.
“We are really moving through science and technology,” Niningi said.
“We must not run behind.
“I hope we can do something through science, technology and research which we can advance and other countries can learn from us. Technology is here .
“We have to adapt and make use of what we have.”
PNG Science and Technology Secretariat chairman and chief executive Prof Teatulohi Matainaho said the role of science, technology and innovation in the development of Papua New Guinea has yet to be defined and articulated in the Government’s development agenda.
He said that in 2013, the National Executive Council took note of the PNG Science and Technology Council Act of 1992.
