ABOUT 300 herd of cattle will be shipped to Central’s Rigo from Morobe’s Sialum this week following an agreement between the Central government and Livestock Development Corporation (LDC).
Agriculture and Livestock Minister John Simon said such initiatives would help boost the agriculture and livestock industry.
He urged both Central and LDC to commit to the agreement and deliver better outcomes in agriculture and livestock.
“Public servants must do their job, we as leaders only speak and allocate funds. Together with provincial administrators, we must continue to produce results.”
Central Governor Robert Agarobe said the agreement was part of the province’s plan for one crop per district.
He said Rigo had a place for livestock and the cattle would be located in Launakalana village where a station with assets were already in place. Agarobe said a total of K2 million would be allocated to the district to carry out cattle farming.
LCD managing director Terry Koim said the corporation’s involvement would be based on the agreement for agriculture and livestock to grow in the country.
He said Livestock Development Corporation had been planning on bringing cattle to Central for so long and the signing of the agreement paved the way forward.
“This agreement will help LCD revive the cattle industry in PNG despite past decisions that displaced cattle in the province,” Koim said.
