EDUCATION Minister Joseph Yopyyopy has told teachers not to hesitate taking a risk where necessary to help lift the quality of education in the country.
Speaking at the opening of a senior education officers’ conference in Goroka, Eastern Highlands yesterday, he said: “I challenge each and every one of you to give serious thoughts and response to six key focus areas, and to collectively come up with a rescue package to improve the quality of education.
“I urge you not to fear change, and take risks where necessary to test new solutions to achieving quality education in the next 10 years, I will give my support.”
The minister said the next 10 years coincided with the Government’s 10-year goals and aspirations to take back PNG and “to give quality education to all, and no one is left behind.”
He said the conference allowed everyone to discuss sustainable options and practical solutions for the national education plan 2020-2029.
The conference, he said, was an excellent opportunity to discuss key policies, systems and challenges to put together strategies achievable before 2029.
Yopyyopy spoke about were early childhood education, the widely circulated 1-6-6 school restructure and optimising ICT opportunities.
