MINISTER for Communication and Information Technology Timothy Masiu says he needs to consult and formulate his response to a query about new data costs to the public.
Responding to a question by Alotau MP Charles Abel regarding the Government’s promise to reduce the cost of data by the end of next year, Masiu asked for more time to consult and formulate his answer.
Abel wanted to know when the average Papua New Guinean was going to benefit from having the system provided by the Australian government and when communication agencies such as the National Information and Communications Technology Authority and DataCo were going to provide real reductions in costs to the people.
“To an ordinary Papua New Guinean, accessing a working network and the cost of data accessibility have always been an issue, especially for those still living in rural areas,” Abel said.
