Minor premiership up for grabs

HEKARI Tarangau face a major test in in the Port Moresby competition as debutants Kone Storms challenge for the  minor premiership.
With two games remaining before the end of the regular season, Tarangau need a win to consolidate their claim for the minor title while Storms must win the remaining two matches to stake their claim.
Coach James Naipao is optimistic that his charges from the Warders’ camp outside Bomana will win the title.
Tarangau will face Kone Tigers this weekend and then archrivals MS Wagambie Paga Panthers in the final round.
Naipao is testing a couple of new players in the last three games and wants to ensure his boys wrap up the season with the minor title.
PRL newcomers Storms have been consistent throughout this season in taking out the second spot while Panthers and Defence started their campaign at a slower pace.
Tarangau thrashed Royals 26-4 in the opening match on Saturday while Storms defeated Panthers 20-16.
Kawaso Defence shot down high-flying Maiari Eagles 30-26 to keep in touch with competition pacesetters, Tarangau, Storms and Paga Panthers while Brothers thrashed Bishop Brothers Hawks 22-4.
In the other games, SBS Butterflies handed former grandfinalists KAL Magani a 16-6 defeat, Kone Tigers dented Dobo Warriors for a spot in the top eight with 12-0 victory while Souths hammered Kavo Wests 18-4.
The points table after last weekend’s results: Tarangau 40, Storms 36, Paga 31, Defence 20, Wests 25, Brothers 25, Souths 24, Hawks 21, Magani 21, Dobo Warriros 20, Kone Tigers 20, Butterflies 19, Eagles 18 and Royals seven.
