THE Enga Mioks are looking to repeat their 2018 form that saw them reach the grand final off the back of a solid start to the Digicel Cup season.
Coach Roger Laka told The National yesterday that the Enga government-sponsored side were aiming for a round-one win against hosts Port Moresby Vipers at the Oil Search National Football Stadium on July 5.
“I think our start to the 2018 season was better which is why we reached the grand final,” he said.
“Last season was a poor start for us which cost a place in the finals.
“We picked up at the back end of the season but it was too late – the damage had already been done.
“We missed out on the finals just by one point to eventual grand finalists Wigmen.
“Now we have a different playing group from last year.
“We’ve recruited a lot of young players from teams in Wabag.
“With only 11 rounds this season, every game will be crucial.
“There won’t be any home-ground advantage in the first four rounds so it will be tough.
“We would love to reach the finals and see where we go from there.
“We’re not looking too far ahead.
“We taking one game at a time.”
Laka said he would be counting on former Rabaul Gurias forward Kot Kerowa, Supa Kokote, Steven Mark and SP Hunter Rhadley Brawa to lead the pack.
He said halves Junior Bobby and Solomon Pokare would call the shots with support from SP Hunters rake Woods Kawage.
Meanwhile, the Mioks are in camp at Telikom PNG Training College in Lae.
