Missing gun

Letters

A recent front-page article in The National of guns related to shootings by police gone missing is far too much to accept.
It is like a story from past Iron Curtain countries where police easily got away with atrocities.
All PNG should be concerned, especially those living in Port Moresby, as anyone can be the next victim and there will be no guns to match the bullet casings.
The suspect cops will walk out laughing and the victims will be buried and gone without justice.
Out of Port Moresby, we still have election-related cop killers on the loose in the Highlands.
Cop killers are supposed to be priority number one for any government, whether in dictatorship or democracies.
The police department hunts the down and brings them to justice immediately. In PNG, police have no such urgency.
This is a seriously dangerous trend for our brave policemen and women on the frontline.
The much talked about Guns Control Commission is still in limbo even after the law was passed in Parliament.
There is no clear roadmap to achieve the total elimination of unauthorised guns.
A quick check with the court clerks around the country will reveal that most cases thrown out have to do with incompetency by police in filing cases. The buck has to stop somewhere and the police commissioner must pull up his socks or throw in the towel.
