Missing names unacceptable

Letters

THE General Election 2022 (GE22) is already a failed election because the names of many voters who registered during the roll update in all East New Britain wards were not on the common roll.
The updated rolls were submitted to the Electoral Commission office in Kokopo, however, we have not seen what is expected.
We are repeating this problem over and over again and by now EC should realise this and improve it in GE22 but instead it is worse than previous GEs.
I suggest, in GE27, we must update all our rolls because if we send them to the EC in Port Moresby, they would still make the same mistake by not including every name on the updated roll to the main common roll data.
It is time to decentralise the conduct of elections back to the provinces, especially the updating of the electoral roll data.
The Government had been carrying awareness but one of the most important things was about updating the common roll but the Government through the EC failed by not including all names that were submitted to them from the provinces.
Seven candidates contesting the Rabaul Open seat raised similar concerns.
