MINISTER for Community Development, Youth and Religion Wake Goi has expressed concern about the safety of Parliament following the theft of K150,000 worth of computers meant for Jimi High School.
He told Parliament last Friday that of the 55 computers he had locked in his office, 25 had gone.
Goi said the theft was being investigated and if the computers were not recovered, Parliament would be held responsible for the loss.
Meanwhile, Goi said the Community Development Department was putting a submission to the National Executive Council to approve the integrated community policy, through district community development centres to bring services closers to the communities.
“We must give the power to the public servants and social workers on the ground or district level to report cases to police to address these issues immediately,” Goi said.
He also acknowledged the Government for considering the employment of a chaplain for Parliament which he said would provide services to MPs.
“There has to be a man of God to assist MPs and conduct prayers for the Parliament session before the commencement of each sitting.”
Meanwhile, Parliament will resume on Aug 27.
