PAPUA New Guinea Mixed and Men’s Netball Association president Adam Parker says he is pleased that the season is ending on a high note.
“The competition has been going really great without any real challenge. We had a fantastic 16-week competition, which saw a lot of talent,” Parker said.
“The grand final on Friday (tomorrow) is expecting a huge crowd to show up and cheer on their teams.”
“The premier mixed division will see last year’s champions Veupunama facing Kamuna.
“Both teams consist of many Hanuabada players.”
Ten teams will be competing in the men’s division, and premier, A, B and C grades in the mixed category.
Parker said throughout the season, the association had helped address stereotyping in the code.
“Thirty teams were registered this year, which means about 500 people are involved and 40 per cent of them are men.
“That means we have about 200 men in the competition which is really great.
“Stereotyping will always be there, but netball is a really great sport for men and women.
“When men try it, many enjoy it.”
In preparation for the Trans Pacific Cup, Parker said the Maleo squad was on course with its preparations.
He said they were in good shape and should be ready for Australia in the three-day series.
