THE Morobe Mining Joint Venture (MMJV), developer of the Hidden Valley gold mine, has donated K18,000 worth of building materials to Busamang Primary School to help the school complete its double-storey library.
Headmaster Michael Musalu said the school had applied for K92,000 from the New Zealand government’s small-scale projects scheme in 2008  and the money was paid into the account of hardware company Plumbers and Builders Supplies in Lae last year.
However, Musalu said since the time when they had got the quotes, the prices of the materials had risen, leaving them with a shortfall in materials.
So MMJV, due to its obligation to communities within its operation and exploration sites, paid the extra K18,500 through its sustainability programme.
General manager of sustainability
and extension, David Wissink, had enquired about books but Musalu said the Huon district administration had assisted.
MMJV will soon open the Wafi Golpu gold project at the border of Bulolo and Huon Gulf districts in the mountains of Busamang.
