AROUND 70 models are preparing for the 2021 bmobile project runway in Port Moresby next month, to raise funds for the Miss Pacific Islands Pageant (MPIP) PNG.
Their rehearsals are being held every Sunday.
Chairperson of the MPIP PNG Molly O’Rourke described the planned events as an extravaganza to raise funds for the MPIP PNG Scholarship Fund “and to create awareness and sale of unique items created by PNG designers”.
“The MPIP PNG Scholarship Fund has been the foundation of MPIP PNG since its inception in 2012,” she said.
“It really saddened us that we could not provide scholarships to young women last year and this year because we could not raise funds through the crowning.”
The girls are being coached by Aline Adita, an Indonesian runway model and social influencer who arrived in Port Moresby from Bali recently.
The MPIP PNG’s main functions are the:

  • EMPOWERMENT of women through education and mentoring done through the pageant and the scholarship fund; and,
  • EMPOWERMENT of women through economic activities or small-medium businesses, done through the Project Runway which promotes creativity and ethnic cultural identity in fashion.

Creations by 10 designers will be showcased by the 70 models.
