THE Momase leg of the Besta FA Cup planned for this week has been deferred to July 17-21, organising committee officials say.
The tourney attracted 44 teams from Sepik, Madang, Lae Football Association, Lahi Soccer Association, Wau Football Association and their associate members.
Organising committee chairman John Ronny said the deferral of the PNGFA sanctioned tournament was due to financial issues.
“We have informed member associations and associate members not to make any move until there are funds to run the tournament,” Ronny said. “All the teams have received updates and are just waiting for our ‘okay’ to travel to Lae. Only a few teams have not communicated with us.”
According to the committee, teams from Raicoast, Ambunti and Kasu are in Lae. The teams have assured the committee that they will stay in the Morobe capital until the tournaments starts next week.
Ronny said the committee was looking forward to being made aware of the teams’ travel itineraries.
