Papua New Guinea hurdler Adrine Monagi is geared up for the upcoming World Athletics Championships which start on Friday in Doha, Qatar.
Monagi, who was selected to replace fellow Team PNG athletes Rellie Kaputin due to an injury last month, departs today for Doha where she will be competing in the 100m hurdles.
The Pacific Games silver medallist, who finished 0.82 seconds behind Australian Brianna Beahan in Apia, Samoa, said her training leading up to the championships was going well.
“I’m feeling pretty confident,” she told The National yesterday.
“I’ve been doing two track and three fitness sessions every week.
“I’m working on my technique but everything seems to be going well.”
Monagi, from Northern and Morobe, took part in the Southern Athletics Championships at the Sir John Guise Stadium in Port Moresby over the weekend and said she was confident in her approach as she pointed areas she had worked on in her preparations.
“I was happy to compete at the regional championships because I got a chance to work on my technique,” she said.
“My technique and everything looks pretty smooth.
“There are two things I just need to polish up.
“Being aggressive over the first hurdle and not napping two of the last hurdles.
“But my performance over the weekend was good. I felt that my speed was there and I’m feeling confident going into the championships.”
Monagi’s experience at the IAAF World Junior Championships, Commonwealth Games, Pacific Games and Oceania Championships were highlighted by Athletics PNG as an important part of her selection to compete in Qatar.
