Money experts told to power economic prosperity

ACCOUNTANTS in Lae have been told that they can contribute meaningfully to the economic recovery of the country.
Vice-president of the Certified Practising Accountants PNG Rachel Kasi told about 300 participants attending a two-day conference that they must be advocates of change.
“As accountants, we have the know-how and can contribute meaningfully to the recovery path of our national economy,” Kasi said.
She said accountants would play a major role in helping to shape the “horizon” of the country.
She thanked major sponsors Bank South Pacific, Investment Promotions Authority, Avis, Beach Accounting and Advisory and PriceWaterhouse-Coopers for their support.
Unitech Pro Vice-Chancellor Dr Kaul Gena said it was not hard to know the status of economy because “we can feel it in our daily lives”.
“We must work together to address this struggling economy,” Gena said.
“In the just concluded general election, many spoke about the state of the economy with the increase in the cost of goods and services and the kina devaluation. It revealed that our economy is struggling much at this point in time.”
