LOCAL financial institution, Moni Plus has donated 20 computers and monitors to Lawyers4Literacy Inc. (L4L) in support of the organisation’s efforts to increase literacy and encourage reading and learning in rural areas around PNG.
Moni Plus managing director Aho Baliki said: “As a financial institution, we encourage financial literacy apart from comprehending the English language and other core subjects.”
L4L president Belinda Sinen said as part of its programmes, L4L identified elementary and primary schools in remote areas of PNG and conducted book drives and fundraising activities to buy books and other reading and learning materials for donation to their school libraries.
“To date, the organisation has worked with various schools in the Highlands region and has sourced and donated more than 7,000 books with the help of various donors and sponsors in Australia and Papua New Guinea.
“Literacy takes many forms, whether it be having the ability to comprehend and communicate through English, Mathematics, the Arts or the Sciences.
“Learning is the beginning of development itself, and we are grateful to Moni Plus for recognising the importance of Information Technology in this day and age,” Sinen said when receiving the computers recently.
