MOORE Printing have retained their Private Companies Netball Competition premier title after beating Bank South Pacific (BSP) 31-29 in the grand final yesterday.
Skipper Susan Leka said it was not an easy 40-minute match having close scores in each quarters at the Rita Flynn netball courts.
Meanwhile in other fixtures, Kamuna edged City Pharmacy Ltd 16-15 to win their inaugural men’s title while Kina Bank won their golden ticket back into the premier division after defeating Theodist 18-15 in the division 1 final.
“The talent and experience were all there for both teams, BSP had a lot of experienced players while we had two or three players join during the season and had to adapt to play on the courts,” Susan said.
“For us it was all about the fitness in the last quarter, although we slowed down in a bit that caused BSP to take the lead and we had to fight our way back in the final quarter.”
Moore Printing made five grand final appearances in the premier division, winning their fourth in yesterday’s final.
Clara Scott and Junah Ilagi took up the challenge in the shooting space in place of Mary Leka, who switched to midcourt as part of the competition’s positional change requirement for national representatives in the PNG Pepes team.
“Our previous shooters were changed, one of my girls left the company so was not eligible to play with the team while Mary recently joined the national team (Pepes) so wasn’t allowed to play her own position (shooter), instead she played in the midcourt,” Susan said.
