More awareness needed on vaccine

Letters

THE opposition by youths from Mendi town that prevented the Southern Highlands health authority from launching the coronavirus (Covid-19) AstraZeneca vaccines last Friday is rooted in a mix of religious beliefs and controversies on social media.
People were informed by relatives who are educated that biblically, the AstraZeneca doses contained microchips in a liquid form that would lead to 666.
According to science, vaccine has side effects such as infertility, blood clot combined with low levels of blood platelets.
There were awareness on social distancing and the new normal but not much was said on the vaccination and people are in fear.
Even many educated elites are opposing the vaccine while church pastors are discouraging their congregations from receiving the vaccine.
In the past, we have witnessed people dying from HIV/AIDS and other curable diseases but the Government did not spend too much resources and attention on eradicating them.
But today, Covid-19 has really captured the Government’s attention.
The provincial Covid-19 taskforce committee should have carried out awareness in the province.
People will continue to oppose the vaccination rollout programme.
