MORE female students are expected to enrol at the Divine Word University’s main campus in Madang this year.
University vice-president for academic and adminisrtative services Br Andrew Simpson said 783 females were expected to enrol, while males would account for 634 spaces, taking the intake to 1,417 students.
He said this was for all years of study and did not include enrolments in the three other campuses of DWU and the Faculty of Flexible Learning (FFL), the latter offering programmes to working class people undertaking studies.
Simpson said the enrolment figure could be adjusted when non-school leaver selection was finalised.
He said while most students would be accommodated on campus, “there will be some who will be enrolled on a non-residential basis”.
Simpson said acceptance letters for selected students, particularly for first-year programmes, had been posted already and applicants should check their nominated postal addresses.
“Selections have been carried out on the basis of academic merit and the references given by applying students.
“Preference is not given to students who do not meet the required standards,” he said.
“There is the expectation that selected students enter into the community spirit and contribute towards the up-building of the DWU community.
“DWU maintains a zero-tolerance on alcohol and does not accept that the community be disturbed by alcoholic behaviour.”
He warned “late arrival could lead to non-registration”.
Br Simpson said the university emphasised academic standards and performance and that must be maintained by incoming students.
“The 2011 external academic audit was favourable to the programmes offered at the university and has given indicators for the ongoing review of programmes.
“DWU places emphasis on community and community service,” he said.
DWU lecturers will resume duties on Jan 30, while students are expe cted to arrive on campus during the week and register and begin classes on Feb 6.
