More funding sought for road link

DEFENCE Minister Win Bakri Daki says more funding will be needed to complete the road link from Mul-Baiyer to Madang.
Baiyer MP Jacob Maki said pilot tracking had been done by the PNG Defence Force so he asked Daki for an update on the road.
“On Sept 30, I flew to Baiyer, then to Simbai and then to Aium Station where the machines and trucks used by Defence were,” Daki said.
“This is not a road as many people in the country are saying.
“Defence has done the pilot tracking already from Baiyer-Lumusa to Madang.”
Daki said it took two years and cost K10 million that had been allocated by the National Planning to cover 108km of pilot tracking from Baiyer to Madang.
“Only 38km road was built,” he said.
Daki said the people needed the road because they had been walking from long distances to get from one place to another.
“The Works minister has written a letter to take on the project, but personally visiting the project site and walking from Baiyer to Simbai in Madang, defence can complete the project,” he said.
Daki said K80 million was allocated for the road project, but only K10 million was used, so he urged the Government to provide more funding for the road to be completed.
