More perks sought for DDA CEOs

A DISTRICT development authority (DDA) chief executive officer (CEO) claims he and those holding a similar position should enjoy privileges and packages commensurate with the responsibility bestowed upon them.
Rigo DDA CEO Koru Abe said: “We are now under the umbrella of politicians and those who make decisions in the hierarchy of the public service, they receive all sorts of privileges and benefits along with the nature of their job so they are compensated.”
CEOs attended a training on the leadership code held last Thursday (March 14) by the Ombudsman Commission, shedding light on the fact that under the constitution, highlighting the fact that they come directly under the leadership code.
“Through this training, we understand we have more responsibilities and feel that our benefits should match these responsibilities,” he said.
Through this training we now better understood the nature of the work and the level of scrutiny they will come under the Organic Law on the Duties and Responsibilities of Leadership (OLDRL),” Abe said.
“We are now in charge of making the crucial decisions for the districts in almost the same level of jurisdiction as the MPs, in light of decentralisation.”
Chief Ombudsman Richard Pagen responded to this, saying: “There is a leadership hierarchy, depending on the impact of the decisions that they will make and the impact of those decisions on people, taking the social contract into consideration.
“The OC cannot directly take this matter up, but you all can write to us formally, stating that we have recognised your role as leaders under the leadership code requesting that the OC mediate for your privileges as leaders with the departments of planning and personnel management, as this issue is in their jurisdiction.”
