THE National Gaming Control Board (NGCB) will expand its sponsorships to a variety of sporting codes in the country, an official says.
NGCB chief executive Imelda Agon yesterday said the agency was a big supporter of the country’s national sport, rugby league.
However, Agon said it was time they sponsored other codes as well.
Agon said sport was a powerful tool that could impact the nation despite the economic struggle.
“I believe that sport is a vehicle that unites the whole of Papua New Guinea,” Agon said.
“If we use it properly, I believe that it will change lives and the mindset of young people.
“Sport instills discipline; it builds characters which helps young people know their purpose in life.
“We have students from our education systems who drop out of grade 8, grade 10 and grade 12, where do they go?
“NGCB has been a big supporter of rugby league for a long time now.
“We may not be able to change the lives of everyone through sports programmes but if we can make a difference by helping a number of youths become better people, that’s what we want,” she said recently.
