More than 50 senior men’s teams to compete in JT 9s

OVER fifty senior men’s teams will compete in the Justin Tkatchenko Super Nines Cup tournament that kicks off today at the Moresby South Stadium in Port Moresby.
Tournament director Bagelo Solien said 16 teams were from the local Moresby South Rugby League competition with 36 invitational teams from National Capital District, Central, Motu Koita, Hiri West and East.
Solien said defending champions Waidex were the favourites to defend the JT Cup against tough contenders Avengers (Ave RLC), SSG Roosters and Erima Funeral Home Laumas.
“These teams comprises of former PNG Kumuls, Hunters and Digicel Cup players experience to boost their campaign.”
He said Lufa Kevei Muruks from Eastern Highlands and Purari Kokori from Gulf would be making their debut in this edition.
After three matches, only the top 16 teams will qualify for the cup playoffs.
Solien said the grand final for senior men’s, women’s and U20 will be on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Tkatchenko challenged the 16 Moresby South clubs to be prepared to win the major honours.
