MORE than 500 residents across settlements in Port Moresby received food parcels through a one-day outreach project conducted by the Church of Christ (Iglesia Ni Christo).
Under the theme of International Charity for Humanity, the outreach charity activity was held on Sunday and centred in the Iglesia Ni Christo church.
Loreen Quinola, who helped coordinate the event, said the bags of food contained rice, sugar, canned fish and noodles.
“Those who came to the charity event came from settlements (villages) in Morata,” Quinolasaid.
The activities were part of the church’s commitment to help those in need and to help alleviate poverty, said Gospel of the Church of
Christ resident minister Elmer Barribal.
Barribal said the church had held many charitable events, but the one this year’s was the biggest so far.
Nancy Nime, who got a food parcel, thanked the church administration led by Barribal.
“We did not expect such things to happen, they just came by to where we were and told us that they were hosting an Aid for Charity and we should come” Nime said.
“And we are truly grateful.”
Barribal said they would continue the church’s outreach aid programme to help those in need.
He said their work was part of the biblical teaching of showing love and kindness to people.
