Moresby hockey awaits competition plan from federation

THE Port Moresby Hockey Association is awaiting confirmation from the Papua New Guinea Hockey Federation on its tentative plans for competition with the Sir John Guise Stadium’s pavilions undergoing maintenance, says an official
Association president Peter Molien said the venue had been leased to the sport’s national governing body but there was no advice yet on when the season would start.
“At the moment, we’re waiting on the federation and venue management on whether we can be allowed to go back and use the venue,” he said.
“We’re the main users of the pavilion, however, we’re only using it under a sub-lease from National Sports Trust Limited, which manages all sporting venues under the PNG Sports Foundation (PNGSF).
“Like all other sports in the country, hockey has been suspended so we’re waiting on the venue management and federation to decide whether to return.
“We would like to return but this now in the hands of our federation.”
Molien said the outer fencing of the pavilion was an undertaking from the venue management.
Recently, PNGSF said all of its venues would undergo maintenance to ensure that they were in line with the foundation’s back-to-sports Covid-19 protocol.
The protocol outlines key areas for venues such as a single point of entry and the availability of hand basins and sanitary equipment for its users.
