BROTHERS were crowned the Sports Tok Sevens rugby union tournament champions after they beat Sisilpak 19-5 in the Cup final at Port Moresby’s Sir John Guise Stadium yesterday.
After falling short to two-time champions Papuan Compound Ravens, the Arthur Clement-captained Port Moresby side finally tasted victory.
Clement said it was a different feeling to finally win the final —something they had been working hard to achieve.
“We had tried to win the Cup in the last two years,” he said.
“We finally did it this year (in the fourth edition of the tournament.
“We thank God (for this achievement) because we only prepared for two weeks.
“After all the hard work we put into training, we’ve achieved what we aimed for.
“Most of the players in the team have experience in playing rugby union sevens and 15s which helped us get this far.”
Meanwhile, Clement also received the Paul Joseph Award after he was named as the player of the tournament.
“I’m surprised to receive this award, but I thank God for giving me the talent to achieve this,” he said.
“I am proud to receive this award.
“I acknowledge our sponsors for making this possible for me and my teammates.
“The team is made up of players from outside centres, but through the support of sponsors, we were given this opportunity.”
